Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Engagement Calibration of the Transmission Clutch
The transmission has Electronic Clutch Pressure Control (ECPC). An ECPC controlled transmission uses individual solenoids that modulate to control the disengagement and engagement of the clutches. Each clutch is controlled by one valve. The current driven solenoid is proportional and is directly proportional to the pressure at the clutch. The more current supplied to the valve, the higher the pressure that is developed. The power train electronic control module (ECM) includes two calibration procedures for the ECPC transmission clutches:
"Transmission Clutch Engagement Calibration" - sets the electrical current of each clutch solenoid to obtain the correct pressure of each transmission clutch. The benefit of this calibration is to ensure that sufficient pressure is supplied for durable operation. The clutch engagement calibration should be performed prior to performing the "Transmission Clutch Fill Calibration".
"Transmission Clutch Fill Calibration" - sets the parameters for the transmission clutch fill. This calibration will fine-tune each valve to the clutch that is controlled by the valve. If the parameters for the clutch fill are not correct, the quality of the transmission shift can be greatly affected. Refer to Testing and Adjusting , "Transmission Fill - Calibrate" in this manual.Calibrate the transmission clutches if any of the following events have occurred:
Clutch solenoid valve has been replaced, substituted, or cleaned.
New flash software has been flashed into the ECM.
Different power train ECM has been installed.
A transmission clutch has been rebuilt.
A planetary component has been replaced
Shifting is harsh.
Transmission oil is a different weight from the oil that was used previously.Required Tools

The transmission output shaft will turn during calibration. If the driven equipment cannot be allowed to rotate freely, then disconnecting the drive shaft may be necessary. Ensure that proper guarding is installed around the output flange after the drive shaft is removed.
Install the Communication Adapter (Service Tool (B)) to the transmission service port and your PC. Open Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat® ET) and connect to the transmission ECM.

Using Cat® ET, click on "SERVICE" from the top menu, click "Calibrations", and then click "Engagement Pressure Calibration".
The "Engagement Pressure Calibration" screen will display all of the clutches that can be calibrated, and the current calibration status of each clutch. Select one clutch
