Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause serious injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Disconnect any implements from the machine. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal surface. Move away from other machines and personnel.
Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine.

Bleed the brake system. See Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Purge Service Brakes" for more information. This will help determine if the problem still exists.
Visually inspect the following components for leaks: brake lines, brake master cylinder and purge valve.
Depress the brake pedal and hold the brake pedal. You should be able to maintain a constant pressure with no further brake pedal travel. Brake pedal travel indicates an internal leakage.

If a leak is suspected, disconnect the brake line at connection (13) on both sides of the machine. Install caps on both fittings on the center housing in order to prevent dirt from entering the brake system.
Assemble two of the test assemblies that are shown in Illustration 1. See Table 1 for the necessary items that are required to assemble the test assemblies. Install 4J-5477 O-Ring Seal on the ends of both 8C-6868 Connector .

Install the test assemblies on both sides of the machine.
Open valve (3) on both sides of the machine. Insert the ends of the two transparent hoses (14) in the oil filler tube. Bleed the brake lines. See Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Purge Service Brakes" for more information.
Make sure that valve (3) is fully closed on both sides of the machine. Pressurize the brake lines. If the brake lines hold pressure, the leakage is taking place in
