Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: API CH-4, API CI-4, and API CI-4 PLUS oils are acceptable in the C15 Acert Diesel Engine if the requirements of Caterpillar ECF-1 (Engine Crankcase Fluid specification - 1) are met. The oil change interval should not exceed 250 hours.Procedure for Changing the Engine Oil and Filter

Remove the engine oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Close the drain valve.

Use a strap type wrench to remove engine oil filter . Dispose of the used filter properly.
Clean the filter mounting base. Make sure that the used gasket is completely removed.
Apply a light coat of clean engine oil to the new gasket that is provided with the new filter.
Install the oil filter by hand. When the filter contacts the housing base, tighten the filter by an additional 3/4 turn.

Remove engine oil filler cap (1) and fill the engine crankcase with oil.Note: Using a funnel may be necessary to fill the engine through the engine oil filler tube.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the proper amount of oil.
Clean the oil filler cap and install the oil filler cap.
Start the engine and allow the oil to circulate. Check for leaks.
Check the engine oil level with engine oil level gauge (2).Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
