Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
At the J1 harness connector for the Generator ECM, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the system power supply contact J1-57 (wire 160-RD). Use the other multimeter probe to make contact to frame ground.
Turn the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.
Measure the voltage between contact J1-57 (wire 160-RD) and frame ground.
At the J1 harness connector for the Generator ECM, insert the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe that was used for the frame ground contact along the (-) battery contact J1-38 (wire 230-BK).
Measure the voltage between contact J1-57 (wire 160-RD) and contact J1-38 (wire 230-BK).Expected Result:Both voltage measurements are approximately the same and are in the range of 18.0 VDC to 32.0 VDC.Results:
OK - Each voltage measurement is approximately the same and is in the range of 18.0 VDC to 32.0 VDC. The system voltage is correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - Each voltage measurement is approximately the same, however, the measurements are less than 18.0 VDC. The system voltage is below normal.Repair: Verify that the fuses in the charging circuit are not open.Check the voltage between frame ground and the fuse panel contacts "C" and "F" on the green connector. If the voltage is correct coming out of the fuse panel, there is an open or a bad connection in the power circuits (wire 160-RD) between the fuse panel and the Generator ECM J1 connector.Refer to the complete machine Electrical System Schematic. Check each of the connectors that are in the power circuits. Ensure that the power connections are clean, tight and in good condition.Repair the machine harness or replace
