The timing mark is toward the outside of the crankshaft when the gear is installed on the crankshaft. Note: After a crankshaft has been reconditioned, the crankshaft must be rehardened. After a nitrocarburised crankshaft has been reconditioned, the nitrocarburised crankshaft must be rehardened. If the crankshaft has been nitrided for at least 60 hours, the crankshaft can be ground undersize 0.25 mm (0.010 inch) without rehardening. An induction hardened crankshaft does not need rehardening after machining. Inspect the crankshaft for cracks before machining and after machining.Note: Turbocharged engines and turbocharged aftercooled engines have the nitrocarburised crankshaft. Naturally aspirated engines have the induction hardened crankshafts.
