G3500 Gensets packaged with 364-8420 Drive Gearbox Group, and not equipped with gearbox pre-lube pump provision, may suffer 390-9006 Bearing damage if generator set is started after not being operated over a period of 30 days. The above issue is due to lack of lubrication to output shaft bearings during initial engine cranking.Solution
Illustration 1 g06030661If the generator set is unused for more than 30 days, apply aerosol spray grease (recommended Loctite LB 8108 Synthetic Grease), through oil port, to output shaft upper bearings prior to operation. In order to insure sufficient lubrication is present around entire circumference of bearings, rotate shaft and apply grease at intervals.
