Information:

Cross section of a folded core radiator.1. It is good practice to fill the radiator to the full mark when coolant is cold. The full mark is indicated either by the cross bar which holds the cap retaining stud or the lower edge of the radiator cap pipe. The increase in volume due to the temperature increase of the coolant is handled by the volume between the full mark and the top of the top tank.2. Normally use a 50/50 glycol/water coolant. Do not increase this percentage unless ambient temperatures below -32°C (-25°F) are expected. Never use more than 60/40 glycol/water coolant. Glycol percentages above 65% reduce freeze protection, reduce the amount of heat rejected to the coolant and promote formation of a heavy sludge which can block radiator tubes.3. Set the trash gap width to 6.5 1.5 mm (0.26 .06") at the widest spot. See the illustration. Each vertical gap is set by loosening the bolts at the center tie straps on both sides of the cores. Set the gap and torque the strap bolts to 44 4 N m (32 3 lb ft).4. Adjust the gaps on the rear (fan side) of the cores in a similar way. Loosen the tie strap bolts on the rear of the cores. Lightly squeeze the core assemblies edges together while the tie strap bolts are tightened to 44 4 N m (32 3 lb ft). See the illustration.5. Use reversible fans in the suction mode only for operator comfort in cold weather operation. Extended operation in the suction mode may accumulate excessive debris on the grill side of the core assemblies. This can cause restricted air flow and subsequent overheating. Step 6 is for D6D and D7G Tractors only.6. An ejector fan is not recommended for use with a folded core radiator. The additional air paths required for debris removal with the ejector fan reduces the cooling efficiency of the radiator. Trash removal has been designed into the folded core radiator. Step 7 is for D7G Tractors with folded core radiators built before 92V12154 or 91V1937.7. Make sure the foam rubber end seals are in place between the side channels and the end cores. Reglue or replace if needed. Step 8 is for D7G Tractors equipped with a pre-chamber engine and a folded core radiator.8. Make sure the tractor is equipped with a 1W7529 Elbow (radiator inlet tube on the D7G Tractor). This elbow contains an orifice and should be used on the machine. This orifice decreases pump cavitation and allows purging of excessive air in the cooling system.
