Caterpillar Engineering has recovered several 3E6477 relay assemblies that are fully functional, even though the repairing dealer reported the relay was non-functional.Solution:
In order to avoid unnecessary replacement of the relay; follow the steps detailed below to test the relay.Inspect the relay for heat damage or other physical damage. If the relay is damaged, replace the relay. Retest relay function after this step is performed.If the relay is not physically damaged, remove the connector assembly. Inspect the connector terminals for dirt/debris or corrosion. If the connector terminals indicate the presence of debris or corrosion, clean the contact surfaces. Re-insert the connector, ensuring proper connector insertion. Retest relay function after this step is performed.If the relay is not functional after ensuring the connector contact surfaces are clean, measure the relay actuation voltage on relay terminals
