Note: If a transmission clutch failure has occurred, documentation of a loose lock nut and low transmission top pressure is required to file a claim against the Service Letter.
Ideally, this program should be implemented during scheduled maintenance or before the machine is put into service.
1. The initial inspection may be performed with the machine at room temperature in any location that allows clean and safe working conditions.
2. Follow all safety requirements to ensure safe access to the area around the transmission cover.
3. Remove the cover plate and set aside. Take care to avoid damage to the seal when removing the cover from the transmission. Be sure to keep the cover protected from contamination.
4. Locate the transmission main relief valve (see photo below). Inspect the valve for the presence of a yellow dot. If the dot is present the valve has already been reworked. Skip to step 8.
5. With fingers, check the lock nut to see if it is loose. If it is tight, no further action is necessary. Skip to step 8.
6. If the lock nut is loose, the main relief pressure needs to be checked per the Transmission Test and Adjust Procedure.
7. Once pressure is within spec, hold the adjusting screw to prevent turning and use a 1/2 inch (13mm) wrench to tighten the lock nut to 18 +/- 4 N-m.
8. Wipe off the mounting surfaces of both the transmission and cover to remove any debris and inspect the seal for damage. Unless damaged the seal should be reusable. Tighten the bolts to 30 +/- 4 N-m.
