Connections of the blade sideshift left solenoid This diagnostic code is associated with the blade sideshift left solenoid. The FMI 03 diagnostic code is activated when the Implement ECM detects an above normal voltage of the solenoid circuit. The Implement ECM provides a PWM signal to the solenoid in order to provide proportional control of the solenoid. The electrical current of the PWM signal is varied by the ECM, based on the input command that is received from the position sensor of the blade sideshift. The sensor is located in the assembly of the right joystick. The following conditions could cause this diagnostic code to be activated:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to another voltage source.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Inspect the connections for the following:
Connections are clean.
Connections are secure.
Connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Clear these created diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Note: The resistance of the solenoid coil should be 8.7 0.4 ohms at 25 °C (77 °F).Test Step 1. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORT
Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the solenoid.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the ECM.
At the machine harness of the ECM connector J1, measure the resistance from contact J1-65 (wire U750-PK) and all J1 and J2 contacts that are used on the ECM connectors.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - Each resistance measurement is not greater than 5000 ohms. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between wire U750-PK and the circuit that has a low resistance measurement. Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE ECM
The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.
The machine harness connectors for the solenoid and the ECM remain disconnected.
Disconnect the energize circuit of the solenoid. At connector J1 for the ECM, use a 151-6320 Removal Tool to remove the following from the harness connector:
Wire U750-PK and socket at contact J1-65
Reconnect the machine harness J1 and J2 connectors to the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Observe the status of the active CID 2165 FMI 03 diagnostic code.Expected Result:The CID 2165 FMI 03 diagnostic code is
