G3516 (3RC, 8LD, 4EK, 5PN) EnginesThese engines are equipped with an inlet manifold air temperature gauge and probe. The location of the probe has been changed to increase the reliability of the gauge. Formerly, the probe was located in the "Vee" of the engine where it was exposed to high jacket water temperatures after shutdown. These "heatsoak" temperatures are high enough to cause the inlet manifold air temperature gauge lose calibration or twist the dial on the gauge. Either of these can result in inaccurate gauge readings. The probe is now located in the air outlet side of the aftercooler housing. See the illustration. In this new location, the probe will no longer be subjected to excessive "heatsoak" temperatures. This will help improve the reliability of the inlet manifold air temperature gauge.

Carburetor (C).This change can be applied to earlier engines. Drill and tap a new hole in the aftercooler air outlet housing with 1/2inch-14 pipe thread. Move the inlet manifold air temperature probe from the former location to the new location.
The charts list the inlet manifold air temperatures for both Low Emission and Standard engine arrangements. These temperatures are based on a 50/50 water/glycol coolant mix.
