Before Towing
Improper hookup and towing is dangerous and could result in injury or death to yourself or others.DO NOT tow this trailer package unless you are a properly licensed driver, have been properly trained and are authorized to do so.
Inspect tires for wear, damage and proper inflation. Stand behind the tread and use a self-attaching chuck when inflating a tire. Never tow with over-inflated or under-inflated tires. Inflate the tires according to the tire manufacturer's instructions.
Tires (1) and lug nuts (2).Do not change the size of the tires. Do not change the type of the tires. Ensure that all of the lug nuts are tightened to 129 N m (95 lb ft).
Abide by all controlling state and municipal regulations involved in towing the generator set trailer package, including: overall length, braking, weight, speed, and equipment required for lawful operation.
Failure to utilize an appropriate and properly sized tow vehicle with a level horizontal hitch connection could lead to excessive towing sway resulting in personal injury or death.
In order to maintain control, use a tow vehicle with weight equal to, or preferably greater than the total package weight. The trailer package vehicle weight is marked on the sides and on the front of the unit. The XQ125 weighs 4494 kg (9,900 lb) with a full tank of fuel. Before attempting to tow the trailer, verify that the tow vehicle is rated for towing a gross vehicle weight of 4494 kg (9,900 lb). Use the shortest hitch overhang from the rear axle of the towing vehicle.
Before towing, inspect the coupling devices and check the torque on the trailer hitch. The torque required for the tongue retaining bolts is 370 50 N m (273 37 lb ft). The torque required for the hitch bolts is 215 40 N m (159 30 lb ft).
The trailer hitch tongue (1) and the tow vehicle hitch (2) should have the same height.The adjustable trailer hitch should be mounted at the same height as the tow vehicle hitch. This will reduce the tendency for vertical pressure to be applied on the hitch during starts, while towing, and when stopping.
Breakaway chain (1) and safety chains (2).A breakaway chain is attached to a hydraulic brake actuator on the tongue assembly. If the trailer is accidentally unhitched during towing and the breakaway chain is broken, the running gear hydraulic brakes are actuated. Attach the breakaway chain to the tow vehicle.
If the breakaway switch is actuated, the actuator bracket will require replacement. The breakaway switch should only be used in emergency situations.
Inspect the safety chains. Inspect the breakaway chain. Inspect the tow vehicle coupling device and chain attachment points. Look for defects such as:* excessive wear or corrosion* cracked, bent, dented or otherwise deformed or degraded members* loose nuts, bolts, or other fasteners
DO NOT allow any personnel between hitch or vehicle and trailer. Failure to comply could cause possible crushing injuries or death.
