Procedure
1. Be sure all internal parts of the torque converter outlet relief valve are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly. Put clean oil on the parts during assembly.2. Check the condition of the O-rings used in the torque converter outlet relief valve. If any of the seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Do not use sealant on the threads of plug (10).3. Install plate (12), screw (11) and plug (10) on the valve body.4. Install poppet (9), spring (8), retainer (6) and ring (7) in valve spool (18). Be sure the shoulder on retainer (6) is toward spring (8) when it is installed.5. Install valve spool (18), spacers (13) and spring (15) in the valve body. Spacers (13) are used to adjust the pressure needed to open the torque converter outlet relief valve. Reference: For the correct pressure settings, refer to Power Train, "Systems Operation, Testing & Adjusting" for the machine that is being serviced.6. Install O-ring seal (14) in the valve body. Install cover (16) with the washers and bolts (17). Tighten bolts (17) to a torque of 48 7 N*m (35 5 lb ft).7. Install O-ring seal (5) in the valve body. Install cover (3) with the washers and bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 48 7 N*m (35 5 lb ft). 8. Install O-ring seals (1) and (2) in the relief valve. End By:a. Install torque converter outlet relief valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve - Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
