Clean
Remove and clean the fuel inlet screen located in the fuel filter housing. Install the screen after cleaning.1. Loosen hose clamp (1) and disconnect hose (2) from elbow (4).2. Loosen lock nut (3) and remove elbow (4) with the O-ring seal from adapter (5).3. Remove adapter (5) with the O-ring seal.4. Remove fuel inlet screen(6).5. Wash the screen in clean nonflammable solvent.6. Inspect the condition of the seal and replace if damaged or worn.7. Install screen (6) and then install adapter (5) with the seal.8. Install elbow (4) with the seal next to adapter (5), with is hose connection facing downward. Then securely tighten lock nut (3).9. Connect hose (2) to elbow (4) and securely tighten clamp (1).10. Prime the fuel system. See "Priming the Fuel System."Priming the Fuel System
1. Loosen plug (1) at the connection of the final filter and fuel injection line. 2. Unscrew the hand priming pump pluger until it can be pulled out by hand.3. Move the plunger in and out until fuel flows, free of air bubbles, from the injection lines.4. Tighten the plug securely.5. Push the plunger in and tighten by hand.6. Start the engine and check for leaks.7. Stop the engine.Cooling System Hoses
Inspect - Check
Hose replacement prior to failure is cost effective and a good preventive maintenance practice. Replacing a hose before it fails saves your money and reduces the chances for unscheduled downtime. By replacing a hose that is cracked, soft or leaking, you will avoid major repairs that could result in a severe engine overheating problem. 1. Inspect all hoses for leaks due to cracking, softness next to clamps and loose clamps.2. Replace hoses that are cracked or soft and tighten loose clamps.Replace Hoses
1. Loosen the radiator cap slowly to relieve any pressure and remove the cap.2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level below the hose being replaced.3. Loosen the hose clamps, disconnect the old hose and replace with a new hose.Belts
Inspect - Adjust
Your engine can be equipped with water pump, fan drive, alternator, and accessory drive belts. For maximum engine performance and utilization of your engine, inspect the belts for wear and cracking. Check and adjust the belt tension to minimize belt slippage which will decrease belt life and cause poor performance of alternator, water pump, and any driven equipment. To check the belt tension, apply 110 N(25 lbs) of force midway between the pulleys. Correctly adjusted belts will deflect 13 to 19 mm (1/2 to 3/4 inch). If new belt(s) are installed, check belt adjustment again after 30 minutes of operation. For multiple belt drive applications, always replace belts in matched sets. If only one belt of a matched set is replaced, it will carry more of a load than the belts not replaced since the older belts are stretched. The additional load on the new belt could cause it to break. To Adjust Water Pump Belt
1. To adjust the water pump drive belt, loosen mounting bolt (1) and bracket bolt (2).2. Move idler pulley in
