Remove the final drive, the brake piston, and wheel.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position spindle assembly (1) in a vertical position. The brake assembly should be facing upward.
Remove O-ring seal (2) .

Remove retaining ring (3). Remove hub (4) .

Remove damper plate (5), outer plate (6), friction disk (7), outer plate (8), friction disk (9), outer plate (10), friction disk (11), and outer plate (12) from spindle assembly (1) .Note: Steps 5 through 14 are for the disassembly of the brake piston, which was removed in the final drive, the brake piston, and wheel removal procedure.

Remove retaining ring (13), hard washer (14), and pin (15) from brake piston (16) .
Remove dowel (17) from brake piston (16) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to compress springs (20) on brake piston (16) .
Remove retaining pins (19) from spring guides (18) .

Release the pressure from the suitable press. Remove springs (20) and spring guides (18) from the brake piston.

Remove O-ring seal (21) from piston housing (22) .

To separate piston (23) from piston housing (22), block purge port (25) and apply a small amount of air pressure to pressure port (24) .
