Start by:a. remove the track adjuster and bulkhead
A recoil spring in compression can cause personal injury or death if it is released suddenly. To prevent injury always install and use the tooling correctly.
1. Install tooling (A) as follows:a. Install studs (1) into the track roller frame.b. Install plate (2) onto studs (1). Secure plate (2) to studs (1) with the washers and nuts (3).c. Support cylinder (4) with a hoist. Position cylinder (4) onto plate (2). Secure cylinder (4) to plate (2) with bolts (5).d. Install adapter (6) to the rod of cylinder (4).e. Install adapter (9), coupling (7) and pin (8) onto adapter (6).
Excessive pressure applied to cylinder (4) can develop enough force to break studs (1) and/or plate (2). This can result in personal injury or death. Do not apply more than the maximum assembly pressure listed below for the correct model when using cylinder (4). A problem exists if compressing of the recoil spring requires a pressure greater than the maximum listed. Stop the procedure. Determine and correct the cause of the problem before proceeding with assembly.
When using cylinder (4) do not exceed a maximum of:a. 77,900 N (17,500 lb) force and 5850 kPa (850 psi) pressure for 943 Models.b. 89,000 N (20,000 lb) force and 6680 kPa (970 psi) pressure for 953 Models.c. 151,300 N (34,000 lb) force and 11,376 kPa (1,650 psi) pressure for 963 Models.d. 231,400 N (52,000 lb) force and 17,200 kPa (2,500 psi) pressure for 973 Models. 2. Use tooling (A) to slightly compress the recoil spring enough to free pins (10).3. Use tool (B) to remove pins (10).
A recoil spring in compression can cause personal injury or death if it is released suddenly. To prevent injury always install and use the tooling correctly.
4. Use tooling (A) to slowly release the tension of the recoil spring.5. Remove tooling (A).6. Remove spring support (11) and recoil spring (12) from the track roller frame. The following steps are for the installation of the recoil spring:7. Position recoil spring (12) and support plate (11) into the track roller frame.8. Repeat the procedures in step 1a through 1e to install tooling (A).
