(3) Sight gauge
Use sight gauge (3) to check the oil level for the differential.

If the engine is stopped and the oil is cold, the oil level should be between line (6) and line (5).
If the engine is running and the oil temperature is above 60 °C (140 °F), the oil level should be between line (5) and line (4). If the oil level is above line (4), drain oil from the differential housing.Note: High oil levels in the differential housing will result in increased power losses and in high oil temperatures.
If necessary, add oil.

Remove filler plug (7). Add oil through filler plug (7) until oil is visible at sight glass (8). Clean the filler plug and the area around the filler plug. Install the filler plug.

Remove cover (9) or cover (10). Add oil until the level in the sight gauge is between line (6) and line (5). Clean the area around the cover. Clean the cover. Install the cover. Note: Correct oil levels are critical in the rear axle housing. Allow sufficient time for the oil to fill all of the compartments in the final drive housing and in the differential housing.
Start the engine and check the system for leaks. Note: When the engine is started, the oil level will drop below line (5) in the sight gauge. This is normal. Do not add oil. Check the oil again when the oil is above 60 °C (140 °F).
