All D379, D398 And D399 Engines So EquippedUse of the correct installation and removal procedures for the double-walled fuel injection lines on the above engines can prevent fuel leakage. Use the procedures which follow and the appropriate Service Manual to remove and install the fuel injection lines.
Removal Of Fuel Injection Lines
1. Remove the brackets, clamps and dampers that hold the fuel injection lines in place.2. Remove the cover channel and disconnect the governor control linkage.3. Disconnect the upper compression nuts at the fuel injection pump group. See Illustration 1. Disconnect the lower nuts.4. Disconnect the nuts which hold the fuel injection lines to the injector adapters. See Illustration 2.5. Carefully remove the fuel injection lines from the engine. Do not bend the fuel injection lines during removal. Installation Of Fuel Injection lines
1. Put diesel fuel on the seals at the fuel injection pump and at the injector adapters.2. Put the fuel injection lines in position on the engine.3. Connect the fuel injection lines to the fuel injection pumps. Tighten the nuts to 40 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).4. Connect the fuel injection lines to the injector adapters. Tighten the nuts to 40 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).5. Push the drain line adapters down on the lower nuts to force the O-ring seals into the adapters.6. Connect the drain lines to the adapters.7. Tighten the upper compression nuts.8. Connect the governor linkage and install the cover channel.9. Install the clamps and brackets. Do not install the clamps and dampers that were originally used directly above the fuel injection pump. These clamps and dampers are no longer used in production.
