Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the cylinder head. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Remove".
Remove the piston cooling jets. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Cooling Jets - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Place an identification mark on connecting rod (1) and connecting rod cap (3). The number should match the cylinder number. The bearing retainer notch should be on the right side.
Remove connecting rod cap bolts (4) and connecting rod cap (3). Remove the lower half of connecting rod bearing (2) from connecting rod cap (3).
Push the piston and connecting rod (1) away from the crankshaft. Remove the upper half of connecting rod bearing (2). Note: Careful handling is required for fractured connecting rods. Fractured faces for the connecting rod and connecting rod cap should not be placed on any surface. The connecting rod and the connecting rod cap should be placed on the sides in order to prevent damage. When possible, the connecting rod and the connecting rod cap should be bolted together in order to prevent damage.
