B 1U-8864 Sealant Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts and this may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Position center housing (3) in an appropriate supporting fixture so that the open side faces upward.
Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to differential and bevel gear (5).
Install differential and bevel gear (5) in center housing (3). The weight of the differential and bevel gear is approximately 136 kg (300 lb).
Lubricate the thrust bearing (4) with SAE 30W gear oil. Install thrust bearing (4) onto differential and bevel gear (5).
Remove Tooling (A) from the differential and bevel gear (5).

Attach a suitable lifting device to intermediate housing (2), as shown. The weight of intermediate housing (2) is approximately 66 kg (145 lb).
Install intermediate housing (2) on center housing (3). Align the index marks on the housings when you assemble the two housings. Note: The mating surface of the two housings must be clean.
Apply Tooling (B) to the mating surface of the two housings.
Install bolts (1) in intermediate housing (2).
Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 100 20 N m (75 15 lb ft). End By:
Install the differential pinion. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Differential Pinion - Install".
Install the service brakes. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brakes - Remove and Install".
