Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Machine Preparation
Reference: Refer to the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" for the machine that is being serviced before performing the following procedure.The 844H Wheel Dozer and the 990H Wheel Loader have separate hydraulic circuits for the front service brakes and the rear service brakes. The pressure taps for the circuits are located on the front axle and the rear axle.
Engage the parking brake.
Stop the engine. Place the transmission direction selector in the NEUTRAL position.
Depress the brake pedal repeatedly in order to release all oil pressure from the brake circuit. This may require more than ten applications of the brakes.
Move the implement control levers through the full range of travel. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the implement hydraulic system. Lower the implement to the ground. Place the lift control lever in the FLOAT position. Place the tilt control lever in the HOLD position.
Slowly remove the hydraulic tank filler cap in order to release the pressure. The hydraulic tank for the brake system is located on the right side of the machine.
Install the filler cap on the hydraulic tank.

Remove the protective cap from the brake pressure tap on the rear axle. Install a 0 to 15850 kPa (0 to 2300 psi) pressure gauge. Testing Procedure
Look at the pressure gauge. Before starting the engine, the oil pressure must be at the pressure of the hydraulic oil tank.
Start the engine and allow the hydraulic oil to reach normal operating temperature and normal operating pressure.
Hold down the brake pedal and look at the pressure gauge. The
