2. Remove twelve bolts (1) and washers that hold valve cover base (3) to the cylinder head. Remove the valve cover base. 3. Remove bolts (4) and washers that hold cylinder head (5) to the cylinder block. 4. Install three 3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolts in the cylinder head. Fasten a hoist and remove the cylinder head. The weight of the cylinder head is 280 lb. (126 kg). 5. Remove twelve seals (8), gasket (7), oil seal (6) and spacer plate (9).Install Cylinder Heads And Spacer Plates (Later)
1. Clean the surfaces of the cylinder head, cylinder block and spacer plate. 2. Install new O-ring seal (1) and new gasket (2) on cylinder block. 3. Install spacer plate (3) on the cylinder block. 4. Install new cylinder head gasket (6), twelve seals (4) and oil passage seal assembly (5).
Be sure dowels (8) in cylinder block go into dowel holes in cylinder head.
5. Install three 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts in cylinder head (7). Fasten a hoist and install the cylinder head on the cylinder block. The weight of the cylinder head is 280 lb. (126 kg). 6. Put 9M3710 Anti-Seize Compound on the cylinder head bolt threads and washer faces. Install the bolts and washers that hold the cylinder head on the cylinder block. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the following sequence: a) tighten thirteen 5/8" bolts in number sequence to 75 lb.ft. (100 N m).b) tighten twelve 7/8" bolts in letter sequence to 210 lb.ft. (284 N m).c) tighten twelve 7/8" bolts in letter sequence to 420 lb.ft. (565 N m).d) tighten thirteen 5/8" bolts in number sequence to 200 lb. ft. (270 N m).e) tighten six 1/2" bolts in number sequence to 75 lb.ft. (100 N m).f) do Step c again.g) do Step d again. 7. Install valve cover base gasket. Install valve cover base with twelve bolts and washers.8.
