Engine (CD or CD/TO-2)
Use oils that meet the Engine Service Classification CD (MIL-L-2104D) or CD oils that have satisfactory performance in the Caterpillar Oil Test Number TO-2. These oils are referred to as Service Classification CD/TO-2.Consult the "EMA Lubricating Oils Data Book," Form SEBU5939, for a listing of CD oil brands. The percentage of sulfur in the fuel will affect the engine oil recommendations. If the fuel has over 0.5% sulfur content, the CD engine oil must have a TBN of 20 times the percentage of fuel sulfur (TBN as measured by the ASTM D-2896 method). If the sulfur content is greater than 1.5% by weight, use an oil with a TBN of 30 and reduce the oil change interval by one half. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for correct engine oil recommendations.Higher TBN values are essential to retard the corrosive damage to metal engine parts.Your oil supplier should be able to furnish the correct oils.Transmission (CD/TO-2)
Use Service Classification CD oils that have satisfactory performance in the Caterpillar Oil Test Number TO-2. These oils are referred to as Service Classification CD/TO-2 oils.Hydraulic Tank
Use Engine Service Classification CC (MIL-L-2104B), CC/SF (MIL-L-46152B), CD (MIL-L-2104D) or HYDO (industrial-type hydraulic oils that are certified by the oil supplier to have antiwear, antifoam, antirust, and antioxidation additive properties for heavy duty use). When hauling hot materials use a heat resisting hydraulic oil such as SHELL IRUS FLUID C.Axle Lubricant (MPL)
Use Gear Lubricant Classification GL-5 (MIL-L-2105B).Lubricating Grease (MPGM)
Use Multipurpose-type Grease with 3-5% molybdenum disulfide (MPGM) which contains a surface active extreme pressure additive. SHELL ALVANIA EP Grease 2 with 3-5% molybdenum disulfide is recommended for most temperatures. When hauling hot materials use a suitable heat resisting grease for the dump body and hoist cylinder pins. SHELL DARINA R2 is suitable for temperatures up to 390°F (200°C).Brake Fluids and Oils
Use only automotive brake fluid to SAE J1703F.
Approximate Refill Capacities
Anti Vandal Filler Caps (if equipped)
Radiators with Filler Caps
1. Remove the lock. 2. Press the bolt down and turn the cap counter-clockwise to remove. A pin (or the lock) can be inserted in holes (1) to keep the bolt down. 3. After installing the cap release the bolt and install the lock. The bolt must be fully up as shown.Hydraulic and Fuel Tanks
1. Remove the lock. 2. Lift the link and turn the cap counter-clockwise to remove.3. To install the cap, hold the link up and turn clockwise. Lower the link and lock.Lowering the Suspension
The machine suspension should be fully lowered for shipping or servicing purposes. Place the machine in the final position required for shipping or servicing before stopping the engine and lowering the suspension. If the engine is started after the suspension has been lowered, the front suspension on all machines will rise again automatically.
Keep all persons and objects clear of the machine until the suspension has fully lowered. The following procedures involve the park brake being released. Park on hard level ground and block the wheels as instructed before releasing the park brake.
1. Apply the park brake,
