Information:
Adjustment Procedure
1. Install the bearings on pinion (1), then install the pinion in the carrier. The pinion must be in a vertical position.2. Assemble the cage (2) to the carrier. Use only one-half the quantity of bolts, with one bolt in every second hole around the cage. Do not install seal (3) in cage (2) until after the adjustment is complete, and do not install all the bolts in cage (2) until after the seal is installed.3. Tighten the bolts evenly around the cage (2) to keep the clearance between the cage and carrier approximately the same. Turn the pinion while the bolts are tightened, until the pinion bearings have enough preload so that a torque of more than 4.0 N m (35 lb in) is necessary to turn the pinion.4. Turn the pinion several revolutions under this preload, then measure the gap for an indication of the amount of shims needed.5. Remove cage (2), but do not turn the pinion.6. Install shims (4) as needed between cage (2) and the carrier to adjust the preload on the pinion bearings until a torque of 4.0 0.6 N m (35 5 lb in) is necessary to turn the pinion. If cage (2) must be removed again to add or remove shims, do not turn pinion while the cage is removed.7. When the pinion bearing adjustment is correct, install seal (3) in cage (2), then install all the bolts in the cage and tighten the bolts to the correct torque.
