End Play Measurement
Note: Shaft end play should be 0.178 to 0.229 mm (0.007 to 0.009 inch) cold.
Utilizing a floor jack under the saw disc, raise the frame approximately 25 mm (0.98 inch).
Tighten the bearing locking nut to place a slight preload on the bearings then back off three splines. Install splined coupler.
Release the pressure from the floor jack until it is completely free of the saw disc. Using a dead blow maul, strike the bearing locking nut driving the shaft downward.
Place a magnetic base dial indicator on the tree support plate. Position the dial indicators face parallel with the top of the saw frame. Place the indicators arm through the 12 mm (0.47 inch) hole in the tree support place so that it is resting firmly on top of the saw disc. Calibrate the indicator to zero.
Raise the floor jack until the saw frame is again 25 mm (0.98 inch) off the ground. Check the movement of the dial indicator. If the dial indicator exceeds 0.229 mm (0.009 inch), the bearing locking nut must be tightened.
Remove the splined coupler and turn the bearing locking nut to tighten. Install the splined coupler.
Repeat steps 3 through 6 until the saw shaft end play is 0.178 to 0.229 mm (0.007 to 0.009 inch).
