Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.
Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement. Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed. Connect the steering frame lock between the front and rear frames before working on the machine.Before operating the machine, place the steering frame lock in the stored position.Failure to place the steering frame lock into the stored position before operating can result in loss of steering.
Machine Preparation
Move the machine to a hard level surface away from operating machines and away from personnel.
Engage the parking brake. Place wheel blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.
Stop the engine.Note: All software files can be obtained from SIS web. Search using software part number.Hardware Required
To use the Software Update application, the following hardware is required :
Communications cable, SERIAL Port 330-5253 Cable As or USB Port 421-5320 Cable Kit.
Windows-based portable computer.
If required, USB to Serial adapter 327-0375 Adapter Kit.Software Required
To update the machine software successfully, the software application must be downloaded from Caterpillar SIS web. In Sis web navigate to Service Software Files - Flash Files - Flash Filename - Search. Search using the appropriate Cat software part number.Note: The files can only be downloaded using the "Flash Filename" search in SIS web. The "Serial Number" search is not functional.Procedure for the Software Update
Record the machine setup. If personality settings have been customized, they should be recorded.

Remove the dash corner panel (A) to gain access to the XE connector on the cabin distribution power board. Refer to Illustration 1.
Connect the communication cable to XE connector on the cabin distribution power board and the computer. Refer to Illustration 2.Note: Ensure that portable computer is plugged in or has sufficient battery to complete this operation. Failure of the portable computer power supply during this process could render the Cabin, Front Frame, or Rear Frame Module inoperable.
Turn on the computer.
Turn the machine ignition key to the ON position.

Open the software ZIP file. Then open the .exe file.

Wait until new window opens.Note: When using the communication cable, matching the COM port will be required in some cases.
Click the "Program" button.

The upload will start with the Cabin Module. A status bar will display the progress of the upload.Note: During programming, you will hear a continuous alarm sound and fault codes will display on the gage cluster.

Once the Cabin Control Module, Front Frame Module and the Rear Frame Module read 100%, then the upload has been completed.
After the completion of the programming, the alarm will be continuously on.
Turn the ignition key to OFF position, and wait for 5 seconds and turn the key to ON position.
Machine software has now been updated.
