Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Ensure that all parts are thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Replace all parts that are damaged or worn.
Use Tooling (D) in order to clean the auxiliary water pump shaft and the seal counterbore in the housing.

Use Tooling (A) to install bearings (15) in auxiliary water pump housing (3). Install the bearing joints at a 5 degree angle from the horizontal centerline of auxiliary water pump housing (3). Use Tooling (E) to install bearings (16) in auxiliary water pump housing (3). Install the bearing joints at a 15 degree angle from the vertical centerline of auxiliary water pump housing (3). Refer to Specifications, "Water Pump".

Use Tooling (A) in order to install seal (14).

Use steel wool in order to remove deposits or corrosion from shaft (9). Do not replace the shaft unless deep pitting or extensive corrosion has damaged the shaft. Note: Do not use sandpaper that will leave visible scratches on the shaft.
Install shaft (9).

Install thrust washer (13) and bolts (12).

Position seal (11) on shaft (9). Use Tooling (C) in order to seat the seal.
Install spring (10) on shaft (9).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Position impeller (8) on the shaft.
Install bolt (6) and washer (7). Tighten bolt (6) to a torque of 360 50 N m (270 37 lb ft). Hit the head of the bolt with a hammer and tighten the bolt again. Repeat this procedure until there is no change in the bolt torque.

Install the O-ring seal on auxiliary water pump housing (3). Position housing (1) on auxiliary water pump housing (3). Install bolts (2). Ensure that the housings are properly oriented.
Install gear (4) and bolts (5).
Ensure that the pump shaft rotates freely. End By:
Install the auxiliary water pump.
