Procedure For New Or Polished Brake Band
It is possible for water to get on the brake band. If the machine has been outside in wet conditions, do not use the procedure for a new or polished brake band. Remove the brake band. Heat (dry) the band to remove the water.
After a new brake band is installed or the band has become polished, it is necessary to slip the brake. This procedure breaks up the polished areas on the band or removes any high places on a new band. Make sure the control cable and brake spring adjustments are correct.1. Put the cable under the bottom horizontal roller.2. Connect the cable to a load that cannot be moved.3. Put the control lever in the HOLD position.4. Move the machine forward in 1st speed approximately 300 ft. (91.4 m).5. If the winch does not have 300 ft. (91.4 m) of cable, move the machine back and REEL IN the cable. Do the procedure again.6. The brake must hold by the time the machine has moved 300 ft. (91.4 m). (Stall the torque converter or slide the wheels).7. If the brake will not hold, do the procedure again.
Let the winch cool for 10 to 15 minutes if it is necessary to do the procedure again.
8. If the brake will still not hold a load, install a new brake band.Pump Pressure Check
7S8879 Pressure Gauge 0 to 2000 psi3B7719 Reducing Bushing8B2283 Nipple3B6552 Elbow1. Remove the guard for the valve at the accumulator tap on top of the winch.2. Remove the plastic plug from the valve.3. Install the pressure gauge.
PRESSURE GAUGE INSTALLED IN ACCUMULATOR TAP4. Start and run the engine at low idle rpm.5. Turn the small handle on the valve counterclockwise to open the valve.6. The pressure must be 700 to 1000 psi (49.2 to 70.3 kg/cm2).7. If the pressure is not enough see ITEM 7 in TROUBLESHOOTING.8. If the pressure is too much, install a new or rebuilt pump.
Before removing the pressure gauge, stop the engine. Leave the valve open. Operate the control lever until the pressure gauge is zero. Turn the handle on the valve clockwise to close the valve.
9. Remove the pressure gauge.10. Install the plastic plug and the guard.Clutch Adjustment
CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT
1. Pin. 2. Adjusters. 3. Bolt.1. Turn the clutch assembly so that one of the adjusters (2) is at the bottom.2. Loosen the adjuster.3. If necessary, use a bar between the clutch hub and the clutch band to put force on the clutch band.4. At the same time, use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the clutch band and drum.5. When the clearance is .010 in. (0.25 mm), tighten the adjuster nut.6. Turn the clutch assembly so that the adjuster at the bottom is at the top. Check the clearance again.7. Do Steps 1 through 6 again for the other two adjusters.8. The clearance must be .010 in. (0.25 mm) all around the drum.9. Remove the bolt that holds pin (1).
