Components of the power train (1) Transmission (2) Torque converter (3) Engine (4) Transmission cooler (5) Thermostat housing and cooler bypass valvePower from the diesel engine (3) is sent from the engine flywheel to the torque converter (2) through an arrangement of the flex drive plate.A pilot bore in the flywheel provides alignment for the front end of the torque converter during installation.Torque converter (2) features a free wheel clutch that allows the converter stator to free wheel during high speed and during low load conditions. A stator that is free wheeling changes the converter into a fluid coupling for better efficiency at the high speed end.The transmission oil is cooled by routing oil through the thermostat housing (5) to the transmission oil cooler (4) . The transmission (1) has the following features: five-speed forward, three-speed reverse, constant mesh and countershaft transmission. The transmission contains electrical solenoids in order to shift from the forward direction to the reverse direction. The transmission will shift from first through fifth gears. Fifth gear is automatically engaged from fourth gear when the engine speed reaches high idle.The direction and speed are changed manually by the operator with the transmission control lever which is mounted on the left side of the steering column. The transmission control lever is a dual function lever. The selection of the gear is made by twisting the lever. You lift the lever upward in order to select the FORWARD position. You push the lever downward in order to select the REVERSE position.
