Complete Assembly of thermostatDuring the assembly of the thermostatic switch, the complete assembly is disassembled and the adaptor housing is fitted to the engine block using the appropriate torque. The thermostatic switch is then seated into the housing by tightening the plastic nut between 1 N m (9 lb in) and 2 N m (18 lb in) as shown in Illustration1.Some of the 384-4305 Temperature Regulator Gp were incorrectly assembled in production. The thermostatic switch was not fully seated into the housing creating an air gap, this air gap consequently affects the thermostat sensing temperature.

Ensure that thermostatic switch is correctly seated into the housing. Refer to Illustration2.

(1) Thermostat (2) Housing (3) Plastic NutTighten the plastic nut between 1 N m (9 lb in) and 2 N m (18 lb in).The instructions above can prevent downstream problems that could cause the 384-5289 Jacket Water Heater Gp to run all of the time or prevent from heating the engine if a failure of the 196-2237 Jacket Water Heater Element As occurs.The effective serial numbers are listed in the Table 1.
