Introduction
This special instruction provides the necessary information to inspect and align the propel drive on the CB-534 Vibratory Compactors. This alignment procedure should be followed if a drum support or motor cover fails. Install a new style drum support (PN 122-0689) and replace the motor cover (PN 081-3715) if necessary.Do not perform any procedure outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.
Illustration 1.Alignment Procedure
1. Park machine on flat level surface. Apply parking brakes and block drums securely as shown in illustration 1.2. Raise yoke or frame until tension is removed from drum mounts (1) and secure with support stands as shown in illustration 1.3. Raise the opposite side of yoke or frame and secure, making certain that the frame is supported the same distance from the ground on both sides of the machine.4. Remove the six drum mounts (1) on propel drive side of the drum.5. Measure and record distances (X) between drum support (9) and drum mount pad surfaces (10) at locations (A), (B), (C), (D), (E), & (F), indicated in illustration 1.6. Start engine, release parking brakes and slowly engage the propel motor to rotate drum support (9) 120 degrees, shutdown engine, reapply parking brakes and repeat step 5.7. Repeat step 6 one more time, then proceed to step 8.8. Distances (X), as measured in all three positions, should be within a maximum of 3 mm (0.120 in) difference if not: a. Measure the distance from the drum edge to each drum mounting pad surface (10). These distances should be within 1.5 mm (.060 in) of each other. If not, rework or shim mounting pad surfaces as needed to bring distances within tolerance.b. Loosen water tank support bolts (11) & (12) on the propel motor side. There should be less than a 3 mm (0.120 in) gap between tank support and side plate of the frame. If not, reshim drum mounting pads on vibratory motor side of drum assembly to correct the gap.c. Check drum support (9) for flatness with a dial indicator. Flatness should be within 1.5 mm (.060 in). Also check to see if propel motor mounting surface has 100% contact with drum support. If not, rework or replace drum support.d. Check frame or yoke side plate straightness at gap between tank support and side plates. If not straight, add shim stock at (11) or (12).
