Removal Procedure
Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Use caps and plugs on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination of the systems.
Open the engine hood. The water temperature regulator is located on the left side of the machine.
Lower the bottom guard.Reference: Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7197, "Bottom Guard Lowering"
Drain the cooling system. The capacity of the cooling system is 24 L (6.3 US gal).

Loosen hose clamp (1) and hose clamp (2) .
Loosen two clamps (3). Remove expansion tank (4) .

Loosen hose clamp (6). Remove hose (5) .
Remove two bolts (8). Remove bracket (9) .

Remove connector assembly (10) .
Remove water temperature regulator (13), seal (11) and O-ring seal (12) .Installation Procedure

Check the condition of seal (11) and O-ring seal (12). Replace the seals, if necessary.
Install water temperature regulator (13), seal (11) and O-ring seal (12) .

Install connector assembly (10) with two bolts (7) .
Install bracket (9) with two bolts (8) .
Install hose (5) with hose clamp (6) .

Connect the opposite end of hose (5) to the radiator with hose clamp (2) .
Install expansion tank (4) with two clamps (3).
Connect the hose to the radiator with hose clamp (1) .
Fill the cooling system. The capacity of the cooling system is 24 L (6.3 US gal).Reference: Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7197, "Cooling System Coolant Extender (ELC) - Add".
Raise the bottom guard.Reference: Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7197, "Bottom Guard Lowering"
Close the engine hood.End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
