This change has been made to housing (1) by adding an O-ring seal for improved sealing capability. The O-ring is located in the joint between ring gear (3) and housing (1) .The original LH 285-0257 Housing (1) and the RH 285-0259 Housing (1) have been changed to LH 316-9769 Housing (1) and RH 316-9771 Housing (1). The change was made to accommodate the new 317-2403 O-Ring Seal .This procedure is to be used on both the right hand and left-hand side of the final drive.Sealing Procedure For Machines With Serial Number S/N:B9J1-1051

Housing (1) that does not have an O-ring seal groove. Reassembly of housing (1) and ring gear (3) will require the use of sealant (A). Apply sealant (A) around each hole on flange (1) and around the ID and OD of the face of the flange.
Apply sealant (A) to housing (2). Apply sealant (A) around each bolt stud and around the ID and OD of the face of the flange.
Ring gear (3) is then slid on the studs of housing (2). Then housing (1) is slid on studs of housing (3) .Sealing Procedure For Machines With Serial Number S/N:B9J1052-UP

Housing (1) has an O-ring seal groove machined into the outer bore. The O-ring is located in the joint between housing (1) and ring gear (3). No sealant is required in the joint between housing (1) and ring gear (3) .
The joint between housing (2) and ring gear (3) will still require the use of sealant (A). The sealant (A) will need to be applied around each bolt stud and around the ID and OD of the face of the flange.
Ring gear (3) is then slid on the studs of housing (2). Then housing (1) is slid on studs of housing (2) .
