No open fire within 50 feet of the screed area while lighting the screed burners. Personal injury could result from open fire.
Fifteen minutes is the maximum heating time recommended. Overheating of the screed will warp the screed plates.
Screed Burner

Each set of screed burners has a fuel control valve that is used to control the fuel to the burner. The fuel control valves are located beneath the screed control boxes on either side of the machine.Ensure that the fuel control valves for the burner are in the CLOSED position.Burner Control Panel

Right hand control boxBoth control boxes that are located on the screed contain the switches that control the screed burners.The right control box contains the control switch (1) for the screed burner fuel pump.Note: There may be a switch for the screed burner fuel pump on the tractor operator panel. This switch must be in the OFF position in order for the burner timer to operate.The left control box contains the controls that are exclusive to the left screed burners and the right control box contains the controls that are exclusive to the right screed burners.Each of the screed burners has a three-position switch that is used to control the glow plug and the blower. Switch (2) controls the main burners. Switch (3) controls the burners on the screed extensions. The standard 2438 mm (8 ft) screed has two main burners. Most standard screed extensions have an additional burner. Check the setup of your application prior to performing this procedure.Screed Burner Starting
Start the engine. Set the engine speed to low idle.
Close the fuel control valves that are on both sides of the machine.

Move the screed fuel pump switch to the TIME position (2) .
Hold the burner switch in the ON position (3) for no more than 10 seconds in order to warm the glow plug.
With the burner switch in the ON position (3), slowly open the fuel control valve for the burner.
When the fuel ignites, release the burner switch. The switch will return to the FAN position (4) .
The burners will burn for 15 minutes with the burner switch in the FAN position.
Repeat the steps in order to light each burner that is on the screed.Note: Only light one burner at a time.Note: The ambient temperature and the composition of the asphalt mix will vary the amount of required usage of the screed burners. In order to avoid warping the screed plate(s), do not overheat the plates.Screed Burner Shutdown

Move the screed fuel pump switch to the OFF position (1) .
Leave the burner switch in the FAN position (4) for 10 minutes after the fuel has been shut off. This will allow the fans to circulate air through the combustion chambers in order to disperse any remaining fumes.
