ESS Initialization Power-up
Check all power and signal connections prior to applying power to the unit. The dealership must be notified that the equipment is being powered on. The ESS can be monitored remotely during the initial charge and discharge portions of the test.If the location is prone to poor network connectivity, Caterpillar recommends the use of a CAN adapter and the FST for battery monitoring and control. Use the following steps for the initialization of the ESS.
Confirm that all system boards and battery breaker are switched off.
If using FST, connect the DB-9 CAN adapter to ESS in the electronics panel. Connect the USB end of the cable to a laptop.
To provide power to the ESS, move the switch for the DC circuit breaker to the ON position. The breaker is located near the rectifier.
Switch on the communications control board. There should be several LED lights that illuminate. All the other boards should be powered off now.
Verify that all enclosure fans are operating.
Verify with a clamp meter or remote monitoring that the bus current is between 1 A and 3 A. If the current is not within in this range, shut down the ESS and contact your technical communicator for the next appropriate steps.
Open the FST and confirm the Battery ID/Serial Number in the menu bar of the program. System level data will also be listed. Confirm the system level data such as the bus voltage, bus current, and system power.
