CAMSHAFT 6N4990 - Caterpillar

The filter for the open crankcase ventilation system (OCV) may be located toward the front or toward the rear of the left side of the engine. A filter that has been used may contain a small amount of engine oil.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Failure to perform this maintenance procedure at less than 1500 service hours will not void the emissions-related warranty.

(4) CupRemove either the cap or the cup from the housing for the OCV filter. Remove the OCV filter. The filter may not be used again. Dispose of the filter. Place a new OCV filter inside the filter housing. If the cap was removed, replace the cap. If the cup was removed, replace the cup. Tighten hand tight.Note: Caterpillar will not be held liable for an engine that does not comply with EPA emissions standards due to modification of the OCV filter or due to the use of a filter that is not approved by Caterpillar.
