Note: The drilled passage for the lube oil in shaft (4), shaft (5), and shaft (6) are not shown in Illustration 3 and Illustration 3.When the engine is started, the transmission oil pump (1) pulls oil from the sump (8). The transmission oil passes through a magnetic screen to the pump. The transmission oil pump sends pump oil through the transmission oil filter. Transmission oil flows to the relief valve. Pressurized transmission oil flows from the relief valve to the torque converter. The Transmission oil flows from the torque converter to the outlet relief valve for the converter. The transmission oil flows to the transmission oil cooler bypass valve. The oil then flows to the oil cooler. Transmission oil that is at operating temperature flows from the oil cooler to the transmission. The transmission oil flows through an internal passage of the transmission housing.All the clutches in the transmission and all the bearings in the transmission are lubricated by pressurized oil. The oil flows through internal passages in the transmission case (2) to the bearings and to the clutches. The gears are lubricated by oil flow from other transmission components.

One passage is for carrying the oil for the lubrication and cooling of the clutches, bearings, and gears. The other two passages are for carrying pressure oil for the engagement of the clutches on each shaft.Each passage that carries pressure oil for the engagement of the clutches is plugged at the end of the shafts. Pressure oil for the clutches is supplied through ports (9), (10), (12), (13), (16), and (17).Lube oil for the input shafts flows through the internal passage in the casting directly to the tapered bearings.All leakage oil from the clutches and lube oil flows to the bottom of the transmission. The oil is then picked up by the sump.
