CAMSHAFT GP 7W1256 - Caterpillar

1. Remove cotter pin and pin (1) from the slack adjuster.2. Remove ring (2) and washer (3) that hold the slack adjuster on the brake camshaft. 3. Remove brake shield (4). Put blocks (7) between the brake shoes and axle housing to get clearance for the removal of the brake camshaft.4. Slide ring and washer (5) toward the differential and pull brake camshaft (6) out of the axle housing. Remove the slack adjuster and ring and washer (5) from the brake camshaft. Remove brake camshaft (6).
TYPICAL EXAMPLE5. Remove four seals (8) and two bearings (9) from the axle housing.Install Brake Camshafts And Slack Adjusters
1. Use tooling (A) to install the seals and bearings in the axle housing.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE2. Install two inside seals (1) with the lips out.3. Install two outside seals (2) with the lips in.4. Install bearings (3) in the axle housing until they are .28 in. (7.1 mm) below the outside surface of the bearing bores.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE5. Be sure washer (5) is in place on the brake camshaft. Slide the camshaft through the bracket on the axle housing and install washer (4) and ring (7) on the camshaft. Slide the camshaft through the hole in the axle housing and install the slack adjuster on the camshaft. Slide washer (4) and ring (7) toward the cam until ring (7) is in groove (8).6. Remove blocks (6). 7. Install washer (9) and ring (10) on the camshaft.8.
