Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Drain the oil from the engine oil pan into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove tube assembly (1). Remove the gaskets.

Remove bolts (2) from engine oil pan (3).
Use two technicians in order to remove engine oil pan (3). The weight of the engine oil pan for the 3408E is approximately 14 kg (31 lb).The weight of the engine oil pan for the 3412E is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).
Thoroughly remove gasket (4) from the engine oil pan and the cylinder block. Make sure that all of the old gasket material has been removed from the mating surfaces of the engine oil pan and the cylinder block. Make sure that all surfaces are clean and free of dirt and debris.Installation Procedure

Use 5H-2471 Adhesive to install a new gasket on the engine oil pan.

Put new gasket (4) into position on engine oil pan (3).
Use two technicians in order to put engine oil pan (4) in position on the engine. The weight of the engine oil pan for the 3408E is approximately 14 kg (31 lb).The weight of the engine oil pan for the 3412E is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).
Install bolts (2) that hold engine oil pan (3) to the cylinder block.

Fill the engine to the correct level with the recommended oil. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
