Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operate the machine for a few minutes in order to warm the hydraulic system oil.Park the machine on level ground. Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

Note: Hand tighten the NPT pipe nipple. Do not use tools.
Remove hydraulic tank drain plug (1). Install a 1 inch NPT pipe nipple, 88 mm (3.50 inch) long, in the bottom of the tank, to open the internal drain valve. Drain the oil into a suitable container.
Remove the pipe nipple. Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug.
Change the hydraulic system pilot oil filters.ReferenceFor the correct procedure, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Filter (Pilot) - Replace".
Remove the hydraulic tank filler cap.
Remove the strainer from the hydraulic oil filler tube.
Wash the hydraulic tank filler cap and the strainer in clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the hydraulic tank filler cap and the strainer to dry.
Inspect the hydraulic tank filler cap gasket. Use a new gasket if the used gasket is damaged. Install the strainer in the filler tube.
Fill the hydraulic tank with clean oil.ReferenceFor information on lubricants and refill capacities, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities".
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Check for leaks.

On Machines equipped with a dump body. Maintain the hydraulic oil level above the "ADD COLD" mark in upper sight gauge (3) when the dump body is fully lowered. Maintain the hydraulic oil level above the "ADD COLD" mark in lower sight gauge (2) when the dump body is fully raised.
On machines equipped with an ejector body. Maintain the hydraulic oil level above the "ADD COLD" mark in upper sight gauge (3) when the ejector plate is fully retracted and the tailgate is fully raised. Maintain the hydraulic oil level above the "ADD COLD" mark in lower sight gauge (4) when the ejector plate is fully extended.
Remove hydraulic tank filler cap (4) and add oil, if necessary.
Stop the engine.
