Introduction
This instruction provides the necessary information to change attachments on excavators using the VERSA-LINK adapter. Improper installation or use of the VERSA-LINK system can cause early wear of the VERSA-LINK and attachments. It is very important that you read and understand these instructions.Separating Attachments
Instructions are given for one side; repeat each step for the other side. 1. Position the stick vertically with the attachment off the ground and at a good working level. The links should be in the vertical position.2. Loosen two wedge clamp bolts (1) two turns.3. Remove retainer bolt (2).
To avoid possible personnel injury do not use your hands to position the wedge. Use the correct wrench to position the wedge.
4. Using the correct wrench, slide wedge (3) upward, removing it from the attachment hook. Wrench Part Number1U9191 EL180 - EL3001U9192 215, 219, 2251U9193 2355. Install retainer bolt (2) through the wedge locking it in the open position. 6. Lower the attachment. Maintain a slight stick-in pressure then open the linkage. Extend stick to disengage from the attachment and swing to the next attachment.Installing Attachment
Check and clean the pockets, if necessary, before installing an attachment. 1. Engage the links into the pockets of the attachment and rotate the VERSA-LINK until it is in the vertical position. Raise the boom so that the attachment is at working level. Keep the attachment off the ground.* It is very important that VERSA-LINK is in the pocket of the attachment and a constant pressure is maintained at location (A).
Side plate has been removed to show wedge position.2. Remove the retainer bolt to allow the wedge to drop into the hook of the attachment.3. Drive the wedge into position with one hard blow of the wrench.
Side plate has been removed to show wedge position. The clearance between the wedge and the link should be 6 mm (0.25"). 4. Tighten wedge bolts (1) with the VERSA-LINK wrench.5. Install and tighten retainer bolt (2).6. For extended operation between attachment changes, place attachment on the ground or against an obstacle and close bucket linkage against maximum resistance. Loosen the wedge bolts and drive wedge (3) tighter. Tighten the wedge bolts.Service Tips
* Do not operate attachments unless links are tight in the pockets.* Wedges should slide freely between side plates. Add flat washer behind the outer side plates if necessary.* Clean and oil bolts as needed.* If wedge runs out of adjustment, add 6.3 mm (0.25") plate under the wedge to gain additional adjustment or weld material to the tapered face of the wedge and grind smooth.* When assembling the side plates onto the links, hold plates upward while tightening the side plate bolts.* If the retainer bolt will not go into the wedge at the retracted position, the hole in the wedge should be enlarged.* The VERSA-LINK wrench should be kept in the cab when not in use. * Use shims, between pin spacer and stick, to keep side play at 1.0 mm (0.04") or less. Shims may be added to either side of
