A key is a master key for the machine only when the key is programmed into the machine as a master key. The key is not automatically recognized as a master key for other machines in the fleet that are equipped with MSS.
For more information about ignition keys, refer to System Operation, RENR2462, "Key Information".
If a master key for that machine is used, factory passwords are not required for the following actions.
Modify bypass mode.
Add keys to the list of keys for that machine.
Factory passwords are always required in order to install the Machine Security System software on the ECM. Setting Time and Date
You must set the correct date and time for the Machine Security System. Use the following procedure to set the date and time.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
Use a communication adapter to connect a computer to the service connector. Use the latest version of Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET).
Put a Master Key into the keyswitch.
Turn the key to the ON position.
Start Cat ET.
Select "Machine Control" on "ECM Selector" screen.
Click "OK" on "ECM Selector" screen.
Go to the "Service" menu.

Select the "ECM date/time" option from the "Service" menu. Illustration 14 will be displayed.

Press the "Change" button. This will cause the "Date and Time" dialog box to appear. Refer to illustration 15.

Select the local time zone by clicking on the arrow button, and selecting from the list. Refer to illustration 16.

Enter the local date and time. Use an accurate resource to acquire the correct time. Refer to illustration 17.Note: Laptop computers are not a good source of time.

Then press the "OK" button. The Cat ET will display the following message. Refer to illustration 18.

Click the "YES" button in order to change the date and time or click on the "NO" button in order to cancel the change. Cat ET will display the new time on a 24 hour clock. Refer to illustration 19.Set Bypass Schedule
Note: The MSS may be deactivated for a period of time by using the following steps.
