At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the breather filter cap only when the engine is stopped and the breather filter cap is cool enough to touch. Slowly loosen the breather filter cap to release any pressure in the hydraulic tank. Be cautious of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected in the hydraulic system.
Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal.1. Remove bolt (2) and clip (3) holding the hose assemblies.2. Disconnect two hose assemblies (1).3. Attach a strap and hoist to the bucket cylinder. 4. Remove retaining ring (4), washer (6) and pin (5).5. Remove two bolts (8) and linkage plate (7).6. Remove retaining ring (9) and (10) and the washers.7. Remove bucket tilt cylinder (11). The weight of the bucket tilt cylinder is 36 kg (80 lb). For installation of the bucket tilt cylinder, reverse the removal steps. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for all fluid capacities and the proper filling procedures.Disassemble Bucket Tilt Cylinder
The spanner wrench in the Tool Chart above has been replaced with a new spanner wrench number. The replacement Tool is either the 8T9203 Spanner Wrench or the 8T9204 Spanner wrench which varies with which particular Model is being worked on. Check with the Caterpillar Service Technology Group Tool Guide for application.Start By:a. remove bucket tilt cylinder1. Use Tool (A) to remove the bearing from the rod assembly.2. Put the cylinder in position on Tool (B) as shown.3. Loosen head (1) from the cylinder body with Tool (C).4. Slide the cylinder body away from the rod assembly.5. Use Tool (D) to remove the bolt that holds piston (2). Remove piston (2).6. Remove seals (3) and (4) from the piston.7. Slide the cylinder body back on the rod assembly. Screw the head back in the cylinder body away from the rod. This will release the head from the rod.8. Remove seal and ring (5) from the head.9. Remove lip seal (9), seal (6) and seal ring (7) from the head.Assemble Bucket Tilt Cylinder

Install seal (2) with the lip toward the inside. Install seal (3) with the lip toward the outside.2. Install ring and seal (5) on the head. Put clean hydraulic oil on the ring and seal.3. Screw the head in the cylinder body only half way. Slide the head back in the rod assembly.4. Install seal
