Cat Data Link connections
The CID 0590 FMI 09 diagnostic code is associated with the communication between the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" and the Monitoring System (Messenger) that is conducted on the Cat Data Link circuit. The FMI 09 means that the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" is not receiving any communication from the Monitoring System over the Cat Data Link circuit. The possible causes of the CID 0588 FMI 09 diagnostic code are listed below:
An open or a poor connection in the Cat Data Link circuit
The "Messenger" Module has failed. This is unlikely.
The "Transmission/Chassis ECM" has failed. This is unlikely.Note: A loss of power to the Monitoring System can cause the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" to activate this diagnostic code. Ensure that the Monitoring System is powered up before proceeding with this procedure.Note: Ensure that the CID 0588 FMI 09 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE CAT DATA LINK CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from the "Transmission/Chassis ECM". Disconnect the machine harness connector from the Messenger.
Inspect the harness connectors and clean all of the contacts of the harness connectors. Refer to the illustration above in order to check the Cat Data Link connection on each of the connectors for the machine harness. Ensure that the wires are secured in the connector, that the contacts are clean and that the contacts are in good condition.
At the disconnected harness connector for the Monitoring System, connect a jumper wire between contact 6 (wire 893-GN(Green)) and contact 5 (wire 892-BR(Brown)).
At the disconnected harness connector J1 for the "Transmission/Chassis ECM", measure the resistance between contact J1-10 (wire 893-GN(Green)) and contact J1-20 (wire 892-BR(Brown)). Expected Result:The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms. The Cat Data Link circuit in the machine harness is not open. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The resistance measurement is greater than 5 ohms. There is an open or a bad connection in the Cat Data Link circuit in the machine harness.Repair: A resistance measurement that is greater than 5 ohms but less than 5000 ohms could indicate that one of the wires or one of the connection points in the circuit is not an open connection but not a good connection. Refer to the complete Electrical System Schematic of the machine. Locate all the connectors and examine all of the connectors of the machine harness that are involved in the data link circuit. Check each wire section from each end of the connectors for an open or a bad connection. Ensure that all connections are clean, that all connectors are secure and that all connectors are in good condition. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE STATUS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires that are associated with the data link circuit.
Reconnect all harness connectors. Make sure that
