Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the final drive planetary and the service brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive Planetary and Service Brake (Front) - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all parts for installation purposes.

Remove shft kit (1) and plate (2) from the front axle.

Remove three pins (3) .

Remove spring pin (4) and brake disc (5) from the planetary assembly.Note: The springs are under pressure.

Remove six brake adjust kits (6) and brake piston (7) .

Remove three pins (8) from the planetary assembly.

Remove seal (9) and seal (10) from the brake piston.
Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the other side of the axle brake piston.
