The cable strap (2) that is used to tie excess sensor harness (1) is strapped tightly without sufficient tension relief.Illustration 1 shows the sensor harness (1) that is tied with cable strap (2) to sensor housing (3) without proper tension relief. Illustration 2 shows a large loop at the end of the sensor housing (3) that causes stress on the connector end (4).

(5) Sensor harness without tension relief (incorrect method) (6) Sensor harness with proper tension relief (correct method) Remove the cable strap (2) and discard, before replacing the temperature sensor group. Use a new 7K-1181 Cable Strap (7) and leave a gap of 38 5.1 mm (1.50 0.2 inch) approximately of loop above the sensor body as shown in Illustration 3.This gap will provide better tension relief for the sensor wires and will avoid the wire strands from shorting to one another.Also, before replacing the sensor, unplug sensor connector from mating connector and clean or blow out any debris or dust that may be causing the sensor to give an improper reading. Make sure that connectors are then reconnected properly with an audible "click".Refer to the above reference for the correct procedure to troubleshoot the connections of sensor and the mating connector before diagnosing the sensor as the problem.
