Connections of the implement lockout switch
This diagnostic code is associated with the implement lockout switch. The FMI 04 diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the signal of the inputs and both of the inputs are grounded.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The switch has failed.
There is a short to a ground in one or both of the input circuits.
The ECM has failed. An ECM failure is unlikely.

Check the operation of the switch
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the switch.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the FMI 04 diagnostic code. Expected Result:An FMI 03 diagnostic code has not been activated by the ECM. The FMI 04 diagnostic code remains active when the switch is disconnected.Results:
YES - The FMI 04 diagnostic code remains active. The switch is not causing the problem. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The FMI 04 diagnostic code is no longer active. An FMI 03 diagnostic code has been activated by the ECM.Repair: The switch has failed. Replace the switch. Verify that the new switch has corrected the problem before operating the machine.STOPTest Step 2. Check the input circuits for a shortThe machine harness remains disconnected from the switch.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors from the ECM.
At the machine harness connectors for the ECM, measure the resistance between contact J2-46 wire (E913-YL(Yellow)) and a clean source of frame ground. Measure the resistance between contact J2-46 wire (E913-YL(Yellow)) and all of the other contacts that are used in the machine harness connectors for the ECM.
At the machine harness connectors for the ECM, measure the resistance between contact J2-47 wire (E912-PU(Purple)) and a clean source of frame ground. Measure the resistance between contact J2-47 wire (E912-PU(Purple)) and all of the other contacts that are used in the machine harness connectors for the ECM. Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
YES - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - One or more of the resistance measurements is less than 5000 ohms. There is a short circuit in the machine harness.Repair: There is a short circuit in the machine harness. The problem is between the wires with the low resistance measurements. Refer to Electrical System Schematic, KENR8916. Examine all
