Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Install Tooling (A) in the front of the crankshaft. Note: The dash marks on the sleeve in adapter (2) must be aligned with the dash mark on the crankshaft.
Fasten a suitable lifting device to adapter (2). Put the adapter in position on Tooling (A). Install bolts (3) that hold the adapter in place.
Remove Tooling (A).

Each new crankshaft seal is mounted on an installation mandrel. DO NOT separate the crankshaft seal from the installation mandrel. If these components are separated, damage to the crankshaft seal can occur.
Note: The crankshaft seals must be installed with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the engine. Ensure that the correct seal is installed on each end of the crankshaft. For SAE standard rotation engines, use the 190-2462 Seal on the front and the 190-2463 Seal on the rear. For SAE opposite rotation engines, use the 190-2463 Seal on the front and the 190-2462 Seal on the rear.
Install Tooling (C) in the front housing.
Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal on the outside diameter of adapter (4). Note: Ensure that all the parts are clean. Do not touch the lips of the seal. Do not use lubricant on the lips of the seal. Ensure that the arrow on the seal points in the same direction as the crankshaft rotation.
Put Tooling (B), the front crankshaft seal, and adapter (4) in position on the front of the crankshaft. Carefully position the seal on the guide pins and Tooling (B).
Install bolts (1) that hold the front crankshaft seal in place. End By:
Install the vibration dampers. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper - Remove and Install".
