Refer to the information below.Description of Change: The new connecting rod bolt has the same rugged design with the annular middle section. The new connecting rod bolt has an alignment sleeve that centers the bolt upon installation. The new connecting rod bolt is manufactured for use with the Intellifast Ultrasonic Reader, which measures the length of the bolt with an ultrasonic signal.Adaptable To: ReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS4749, "Using the Ultrasonic Reader for 3600, G3600, and C280 Connecting Rod Bolts"ReferenceEngine News, SEBD9967, "A New Torque Procedure for Connecting Rod Bolts Is Now Used on 3600, G3600, and C280 Engines"The new 369-7181 Bolt As is a direct replacement for the former 355-4969 Bolt, which is canceled.The new 369-7181 Bolt As is compatible and interchangeable with all previous connecting rod bolts in 3600, G3600, and C280 Engines.Note: The new 369-7181 Bolt As is not used in 3618 Engines.

(1) Intellifast chip (2) Bar code Chip (1) is embedded in the threaded end of the bolt. The chip enables the Intellifast Ultrasonic Reader to measure the length of the loaded bolt and to calculate the load. Refer to the Special Instruction that is referenced above.Use of the Intellifast Ultrasonic Reader is not mandatory. However, the Intellifast Ultrasonic Reader accurately determines whether the connecting rod bolt has the proper load. The measurement reduces the risk that an installation error is not noticed.Bar code (2) included the serial number of the bolt and the original free length of the bolt.The new 369-7181 Bolt As is used with the same 205-0640 Nut that is used with the previous bolt.The new 369-7181 Bolt As uses the same tightening procedure as the former bolt. Follow the procedure that is described in the current engine Specifications manual. For additional information, refer to the Engine News that is referenced above.

(3) 369-7183 Heat Shrink Tube Prior to installation of the new 369-7181 Bolt As, inspect tube (3). The tube serves as an alignment sleeve for the bolt.
The tube must be firmly in place. The tube must not move under light finger pressure.
The whole surface of the tube must be smooth.
The tube must not extend into the fillet that is under the bolt head.If a problem is found with the tube, use the following replacement procedure.
Carefully cut the tube from the bolt.
Ensure that there is no damage to the shank of the bolt that was under the tube.
Clean the shank of the bolt with solvent in order to remove any oil or molylube.
Slide a new 369-7183 Heat Shrink Tube onto the bolt. Position the tube approximately 1.5 mm (0.059 inch) under the bolt head, away from the fillet that is under the bolt head.
Use a heat gun or place the bolt and tube in an oven at 135° 14°C (275° 25°F) for 10 minutes. The tube must shrink into place without any bumps
