3600 Family Of EnginesDescription of Change: New water pumps are used for the jacket water and oil cooler/aftercooler water pump groups and auxiliary water pump. The new pumps are designed to direct coolant flow to the seal groups, and have a larger weep hole. The water pump has been changed to incorporate both bearings in the pump housing. The previous design had one bearing in the pump housing and one bearing in the engine front housing. This will prevent damage to the shaft and bearings during handling and assembly. The bearings have been changed to a grooveless design to prevent cavitation erosion. The illustrations show the differences between the new and former water pumps. Other features with the new pumps include:
... An improved oil seal.... Housing drain plugs relocated to the front for improved access.... Sea water pump uses stainless steel housings and impeller for improved erosion resistance (formerly brass).... New sea water pump does not require filtered water for seal cooling.Larger diameter weep holes.
Adaptable To: See the chart for the new and former part numbers for the affected groups. The new pumps can be used to service the current pumps and are adaptable to first production. However, individual improvements can not be installed on earlier pumps.
